Please clarify standards for me

I was just looking at the National Masters News web site. They have a section there for All American age group standards. For 50 to 54 the standard is 11'7 3/4". What does that mean? Later.................Mike

They have a program where they have established a set of performance standards (by age group) per event. If you achieve that standard, you can register with them, send them some money, and they will send you a patch you can sew onto a jacket or something or just put it in a box with your other athletic memorabilia. I don't know how they decide what performance deserves this recognition. Perhaps someone else can answer that question.

Do you mean that I don't get a free car, all expenses paid vacation to Disney World and the respect of vaulters world wide if I clear it? Geez, here was something I thought I might achieve. I'm bummed, the WR is clearly out of reach for me so I'll go back to settin' my sights on just clearing an opening height at this Sundays meet. Later...........Mike

I think if you clear it, you can justifiably take pride in that! If you get National Masters News, you can see the results from a lot of the meets across the country. Checking those in each issue (un-scientifically) would lead me to believe you could win more than half of the meets by clearing that height. Also, if you look at the 2004 outdoor rankingspage you can see that only 13 vaulters in USA jumped higher than that. So get back to the grindstone and go do it.

OK Mike, I looked at the 2005 Outdoor Rankingsand saw that only 7 people so far have beat that standard. I see our friend Bubba in that group. Now don't you want to keep him company? After all, he has given us both a lot of encouragement and coaching! Add a couple more Bubka's to your exercise routines, run like hell, plant tall, swing hard and fly! - master

Simply go to this link, 2005 Outdoor Rankings. Click on the "Submit Outdoor Results" link on the top of that page and fill in the form. Two points here, if it is one of the larger meets (ones that the National Masters News paper reports), it is not necessary to submit because those results will be entered automatically. If not, submit your results on their "submit" page. They do like for you to provide them a link to results, posted on the web, for that meet if it is available. Simple huh!
