UL’s Cajun Track will host the 2008 Louisiana Senior Olympic Games track and field competition on Friday and Saturday, providing a venue for that action after Hurricane Gustav damaged facilities at Baton Rouge on Labor Day.
The two-day competition will include long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, javelin, hammer throw, weight throw, shot put and pole vault, as well as running events (50 meters, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and walk-a-thon).
Over 150 athletes are expected to compete in various age groups.
Since the venue was switched on short notice, volunteers are needed to help manage the meet. Duties will include retrieving field implements, running data to coordinators and providing additional assistance where needed.
