I was at Louisville and found the timeline and price within my budget Being a retired school teacher, just getting myself and my poles to SF was going to tax my budget. Now with the schedule I cannot afford it and will have to pass this year

Nope. They have ceased returning emails. My guess is that they will evaluate the schedule and come back with a one day event. What day? Who knows? I booked a beach house for the week at Half Moon Bay so I can be available yet enjoy my trip. Bubba

Anyone heard anything further on the schedule? The online schedule still shows prelims and finals. I guess they just want people to stick around Palo Alto longer.

They have said if there are 12 entrants there will be prelims. Bubba

Would it be correct to say there is a possibility of 150 entrants for each pole vault age group? I'm thinking 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each State.

Do they show the an up to date list of entrants on their website?

Last year we (M50) had the largest group with 16 and I think 12 showed up and jumped. The M55 had one less. It's foolish to have to jump 8' to make a final where 12' was 5th.

They don't have a list of entrants - that would make too much sense. Bubba

I would imagine that with the economy tanking, the meet will take a big hit this year.

I have never attended a National Senior Games to pole vault. Can those of you who have, share with me (here or by PM) what is special about this event? Does it get the same kind of turnout in the vault as a USATF Nat Champs? Is it run well? What is "special" about it that they charge such a high entry fee?

Hey John. It's 12,000 athletes in 18 sports competing in the National Senior Games or “Senior Olympics”, whereas USATF is only T&F. At the last one in Louisville the competition was much stiffer for us than at USATF with 12’ getting 5th place in the M50 yet 3rd at USATF.

It’s not necessarily better, just different. The pageantry is HUGE as well as the Olympic Village and athletes reception. A lot of very talented athletes in many sports ad it’s every two years on odd years. Come and see us in 2011 as the Games will be in my hometown of Houston. Bubba

My training partner, Don Curry talked to someone today who is optimistic that after the extended close of entries on March 15, that they will be able to announce a "Final Only" meet with the final taking place on the scheduled "Final" date. I'm optimistic of the same. Bubba
