If there are any geezers out there who are entertaining thoughts of picking up a pole and having a go, you might be interested in what (U.S.) National Masters News describes as "Standards of Excellence" for each age category at their website, <www.nationalmastersnews.com>. They don't further define "Excellence," but I suspect it might mean something like a height that won't be embarrassing when competing in these categories. Cheers, Roger

so..... d.miles and stu double the height of the "standards of excellence"??? so are they twice as excellent then??
8700... mark it down
This standard is my principal motivation right now. My current masters PR is 3.40, so I've got a pretty big improvement (a foot) to go to get the "All American" status (3.70) for my age group. It's what keeps me training 4-5 days a week.
Other alternatives: 1) maintain my current height and wait 8 years; 2) sex-change operation.
