Master's starting point

Question?
I notice many masters have a starting point out between 60-80 foot marks.
How is this determined?
My top hand is at 12' and I'm at 51'. I have another foot then I'm at the end of the pole.

I'm just wondering if I just take two steps back, mark, then two more, etc...
A couple test runs to make sure.

Is there a standard method used for this process?

How many lefts are you taking now, with a grip of 12'?
You can go to Sky jumpers.com. Jan has lot of good stuff on there and yes there is a formula that takes into account your height, grip and number of lefts.

Hey Todd,
I'm at 5 lefts, around 51'.
If I go back another two steps I'll be at the top of my pole (with 6" to spare) and probably starting at 61'.

A good rule of thumb is that you divide your run by the number of lefts you are taking. So for a 51' run, that's a little over 10'. To go to a 6 left run, if you back up around 10'-11' you'll be in the ballpark. It's best to have someone monitoring your mid mark.
