Mondschein Sets School Record In The Pole Vault
Senior Brian Mondschein records an NCAA automatic qualifying mark
February 11, 2006

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Virginia Tech track and field teams had a strong showing on the final day of competition at the Penn State Invitational.

The highlight of the meet for the Hokies came when senior Brian Mondschein not only shattered the school record in the pole vault after clearing 5.52m (18'1.25"), but recorded an NCAA automatic qualifying mark with the vault. The height is also his personal best and the second-best vault in the NCAA this season.

"This is a day that Brian will remember for the rest of his life," director of track and field Dave Cianelli said. "It was very exciting watching him perform. Brian will only go higher. His vault was the high point today."

Also in the event, Joe Samaniuk tied his career-best vault, clearing 4.95m (16'2.75") in his fourth-place finish.

yeah it was really incredible, especially after i almost no heighted, eeks. theres def. more to go too. i didn't put up any attempts at 5.60 cuz i was soo tired, and i got rocked at take off everytime. oh well. it was still a great day. it was also amazing because my mom and dad got to see it in person, and one of my best friends, dave, from H.S. came up too. he used to kick my butt all the time. it was the first time hes seen me jump in 4 or 5 years.

It is about time Brian! Way to go man! It's been what, 2 years of chacing that 18 foot barrier? You deserve it!

Mad props to you dude!

I guess you don't have to worry about that 5.45m jump at Reno qualifying now.
