Hey, i've decided to make a big move from Chicago to Cali next year to go to Cuesta and run track. Does anyone else go there or have an opinion on the school or town? Thanks.

Cuesta is in a beautiful area, as becca said it IS a lot warmer than Chicago, but its not the warmest in California. You have every element of nature there. Some mountians, rolling hills, amazing coast-line, cliffs, flat sand beaches, Morro Bay "Rock" And Some awesome waves if your into that........

oh ya, theres this guy Jan Johnson that coaches around there, not sure if you've heard of him, but i guess he's alright.... :P

hope this helps...

Thanks! I went out there for my 1st time in Dec for his camp. It's awesome, wayyy different then Chicago. I saw the ocean for my 1st time! I'm not sure how serious JC track will be, but with Jan coaching, i'm sure it will be fine.

Not to mention, based on the strong PV subculture in the area you have a pretty good shot of becoming a better than average vaulter. You must figure out how to utilize the resources in the area. Cuesta is a great place to begin the journey!

Stupid question, how is the weather in slo? Is it good enough to train outdoors year round? Remember, Chicago is pretty chilly...

i'm in southern Cali. where it is good to train outdoors year around, i know that SLO is just a few degrees cooler, but you'd still be able to train year around. There may be some occasional rain, but you get that everywhere....

as for any indoor training at all, i dont know of any indoor track or training facility in cali. at all.... hope this helps :D

BJ is right, the weather is 3-5 degrees cooler than Southern Cali, but compared to the rest of the country it's perfect. There is no indoor training facility, because we don't need one. The rainy season is pretty short.

To specifically answer your question...since nobody actually did:

According to weather.com for San Luis Obispo:

Jan ave low: 42
Jan ave high: 65
June ave low: 51
June ave high: 78

so you're looking at a seasonal change of about 10-15 degrees year round. The HORROR!!!
