Div. II NCAA Womens Pole Vault

Turlock, Calif. --- Minnesota State senior pole vaulter Lauren Stelten won the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship Friday evening with a vault of 13’0.3/4”.

For Stelten, a native of Cologne, Minn., this completes the indoor/outdoor sweep in the pole vault as she earned her first-ever national championship this past winter with a vault of 13’6 ½”. It also marked her eighth career All-American award.

She becomes the first Maverick since Kaitlin Rains to complete the indoor/outdoor sweep as Rains did so in 2009.

The win in the vault marks the eighth title for Minnesota State in the event since it was introduced into NCAA Division II track and field in 1999, the most of any NCAA Division II program. Minnesota State entered the meet tied with Abilene Christian with seven pole vault titles.

Stelten, who was the #2 seed entering the meet, was MSU’s lone representative at the national championships on the men’s or women’s side.
