Suggestions: Chico or Fresno State

Hey everyone! I figured all of you college people could help me. I am currently a junior in high school, and I am really looking to be a PE teacher when I grow up. I am also really really looking to get better and really good at vaulting. Here's my situation, and question: I am thinking about CSU Fresno, which is D1, or CSU Chico, which is D2. Fresno has a great pv program, and also has my major, but on the other hand, Chico has a great teaching program, but they don't have any, or close to none girl vaulters this year. What my real question is is that whether in this case if it is better to go D1 and be a small fish in a big pond, or go D2 and be a big fish in a small pond. So basically go to Fresno with hope that at first I wont be very competitive at first and then get better, so I can compete with all of the D1 girls goin 14, or do I go to Chico, and dominate mostly every meet, but at the same time, I don't know how much better I'll get, considering the coach is kind of a rookie at Chico, and don't think they go to Reno at all. If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it! Thanks, and hope it all makes sense! I am also open to any other school options you think are better, such as schools in CA have both the major Physical Ed, and also good Pole vaulting. Any help is great!

Pole vaulting aside, I would choose Chico for 2 reasons. 1. Fresno is an armpit. 2. Chico may be the only school that has a BS degree for becoming a Brew Master.

Choose where you'll be happy and fit in well both academically and socially.

WHERE TO GO!

Fresno's PV program is living on the past. The program has poor funding, take a look at the track it so old and wore down. look at the actual vault results of the pole vauters from the bulldogs and see if they are vaulting what you have heard. Talking with two ex-vaulters from Fresno in the past 3-5 years they did not recommend going there. Fresno= Good Luck!

Definitely pick where you think you'll be happiest all around. If you're pretty sure you want to teach, then I would say Chico St. is a MUCH better choice to set you up for that. And if you love vaulting and you're willing to work hard, you can do well wherever you go. And if you're leaning towards Fresno, make sure you really feel like you fit in there (with the coach, other athletes, school, etc.) and aren't just doing it because they've had a good history. I've known a few vaulters who went there and didn't end up liking the program.
