What's the overall worst school to vault at?

Well it could mean a lot of things. Some people struggle with injuries the whole time they are in college. Sometimes that is an indication of a program that overtrains or doesn't train safe, but sometimes it is just the kid.

Some kids lose focus and just don't try very hard. Some kids party too much. Plenty of girl vaulters have put on a significant amount of weight in college (and I don't mean muscle) and have trouble matching their high school accomplishments.

In contrast, some schools with crappy facilities and crappy coaching will have kids improve, if for no other reason than they get stronger and faster.

Looking at how much people improve since high school is DEFINITELY important, but if you are seriously interested in a school, take the time to find out as much as you can about each of the vaulters. This will give you a better idea of what is going on.

Man, this is kinda making me cross my fingers for the next few years, aren't there any good stories of kids who find the perfect college and improve greatly if not drastically in the vault?

Pole selection is not the issue. Given the prices of pole there are very few schools that will not purchase a pole or two.

Actually it's a big issue for a LOT of colleges... just not most of the big ones. There are tons of small schools with crappy pole selection who refuse to spend much money on poles.

Even some of the bigger ones aren't perfect. My teammate transferred to Southwest Missouri State. The biggest pole she jumped on last year was a 12'6" 160. They bought her a 12' series... I think 110, 120, 130, maybe 140. Those are great poles... from about 3 lefts for her. She owns a 12'4" 149 ESSX that she blows through from 5 lefts. They won't buy her any new poles until next year.

Luckily I had a 13'135 Carbon and a 13'150 Spirit I wasn't using that I lent her, but that's not exactly a great series

I know a kid who is jumping better than ever as a freshman in college. He has no indoor facility, no poles from the school to jump on and none they want to buy, and no coach at the school...He borrows poles from my high school coach, trains at my old high school with our old coach and has PRed as a freshman in college. The best and only thing the school provided was a weight program that helped him to get stronger; however, the track team has NO budget to cultivate the vault and I'm surprised they have vaulters in the first place. There is hope you can jump well in your first year, but don't be surprised or upset if you don't...it happens.

Some dude from U-New Mexico had a 11'6" HS PR and popped 17'8 1/2" at the Tx Relays rather easily.

I heard Giovanni Lanaro MtSAC/CSU-Fullerton was also an 11'6" HSer and he jumped 18'4 1/2" or so in college.

well, i jumped 11'6" in HS, went to college didnt vault my 1st 2yrs (didnt work out or run either) vaulted 11'5" indoor season this yea, and just jumped 12'8 3/4" on Sat. to PR by 16 inches about. Its kinda my freshman year

I know that my freshman year i didn't vault any better than high school, but i only vaulted once every 2 weeks or so. THe other 3 vaulters and the multi have improved every year here. It goes person to person i guess.

It's only heavy when your poles are in it!!
