Perth, Australia: CMS Medallist at Uni Games.
Melbourne University athlete Karina Thompson competed this morning in her first National Australian University Games, and came away with a bronze medal for her efforts.
Despite this being her first Games, and only the 4th competition in which she has ever competed, she was disappointed not to make an impression on the leaders, with the competition won at 2.80m, the same height which took second place.
"It was all going so well and I flew over my opening height, and then for some reason I could not clear 2.20m, and suddenly I was out", said Thompson immediately after the competition.
However, picking up a medal only 3 months after taking up the event is not a bad effort, and Karina will now look forward to her first competitive season in the pole vault, starting with the Victorian Shield Round 1 at Aberfeldie on October 16th.
Full results are not available at this time.
