Mark Hollis' thoughts...
"Tako Grip is unlike anything I've ever used. As a professional pole vaulter my grip is something I must have complete confidence in as I'm jumping 19 plus feet in the air and Tako gives me that. Whenever I need a good grip I only trust Tako. -Mark Hollis 5.29.2013"
2004 Olympic Pole Vault Gold Medalist - TIM MACK - Tako Grip Review
"During my professional career I was constantly concerned with my grip, and tried many different combinations. The worst thing about it was trying to travel with several rolls of tape, sticky spray, and chalk. It was a distraction to my pole vaulting that didn't have a simple solution. I wish that I would have had Tako Grip when I was competing, and recommend it to to all pole vaulters... at all levels. The grip and feel of this product is amazing and like no other grip product I've ever tried. It creates confidence with each grip, and makes the event more safe. Many of the athletes that I currently coach use it - from 6' middle school girls, to 18' men it seems to work for everyone. - Tim Mack"

Re: Tako Grip: Pole Vault Grip Tape
First off this sounds like a great product! But I was just wondering, does it last longer than normal athletic tape? Because for $20 a roll most high schoolers like me cant afford it if it doesnt last any longer than normal athletic tape. But once again this looks like its a great product!

It lasts VERY long. Angela Rummans has had the same Tako on her poles for about 5 weeks, and is still going strong... I have plenty on hand to use and still get about 2 weeks worth out of a grip. It will be something that you would have to try to know... we haven't had time to get a real feel on how long it will last, and each person is different. We will see.

Re: Tako Grip: Pole Vault Grip Tape
Also... I only do a top hand tako grip on my poles. We named it "Tako" after the Japenese word for octopus tentacle... because the material literally grabs you. So you can cover more poles if you choose to just use it on the top hand.
BUT
Others like it on both hands - so again, it's up to the user.

So Mark Hollis jumps 19+ now? Must not have caught the results on that one..
But. You stated you get about 2 weeks of grip out of your top hand? What happens to make it go away? Does the material become less sticky? Or doe the Micro grip things just wear down and it turns into regular tape?

Re: Tako Grip: Pole Vault Grip Tape
It doesn't lose its grip, an Angela hasn't seen a loss in her grips for the whole time she has used them. I've just replaced mine after it getting frayed or dirty - just from regular use. I've got to keep mine fresh right now... everyone wants to try it out and evaluate it for themselves - so I keep mine pretty!
As for Mark's quote. He has used and tested the grip tape, and wanted to express the confidence it gave him.

Thanks for the response! I just might buy a roll just to see how it does!

I purchased it and you only get enough for ONE hand width plus an inch or two. not much for the price.

I guess it depends on the width of your pole, in my experience testing it out on like 13'-14' poles, you could tape a grip on at least 2 poles with an inch or two on each side of the grip.
