On a night when the 1999 champion Yelena Isinbayeva was raising her world pole vault record to 4.95m in Madrid - three of the new generation were smashing the 4.10m championship record she set in Bydgoszcz.

Ekaterina Stefanidi who cleared 4.37m indoors in February might not have attained that height, but was just happy to take home the gold medal after a tense competition.

The Greek won the title on countback both herself and Venezuela's Keisa Monterola defying a swirling wind to clear 4.30m.

Shuo Yu in third place vaulted 4.20m while Australia's Vicky Parnov also matched the 4.10m former record Isinbayeva achieved in Bydgoszcz

Seeing that Pacer Carbons are not available to the public yet, it looks like both the 4.30 girls are holding very high on 14' poles. This is unless pacer made a special provission for them.

Huh? The ultralights aren't available to the public yet, but regular carbons have never been in short supply.

If you are talking about Monterola's pole being a regular Carbon (as opposed to Mystic), Gill has made some shorter Pacer Carbons in the past, but the patterns are so similar to the Mystic Carbons that they now only make shorter carbons as Mystics. Monterola could be on a regular 14'6 Pacer Carbon, she could be on an older custom one, or or she could be on one that got chopped.

Stefanidi is just on a regular Mystic Carbon.

Yeah, basically some long a** poles was my point. And I did mean short carbons not mystics. Kate Soma definitely had a shorter carbon this year. Don't know it was cut though.

It wasn't cut. She was on an ultralight carbon mystic. The ultralights have been using a silver wrap for both the Mystics and CarbonFX poles.

The Ultralight Mystic Carbon's and Ultralight CarbonFX's are the same pole. So progressing from a 14' Mystic Carbon to a 14' 6" CarbonFX (where they begin) should be a very smooth transition.

Kate Soma has been jumping on the Ultralight 14' Mystic Carbon's. She also borrowed one of ours at NCAA's from Cheryl Terrio.

Beginning in early June, I was told Gill Athletics was no longer using the old cloth. All new carbons whether they are Mystic Carbon or CarbonFX will be made with the Ultralight cloth.

You probably guessed... I'm a dealer for Gill Athletics.

I dunno about that... I talked to Bryan today and they aren't putting the ultralights in the catalog for 2005-2006. They don't have a date set for when they will officially be released to the public.

Originally they were going to be available starting this fall, but a number of unanticipated problems arose and the date had to be pushed back.
