School records are solely at the discretion of each school's coach.

I know my "high school" PR occured at an AAU meet right after I graduated and it did not count as a school record. I doubt most would even consider a meet result outside of the school season unless it's a significant mark like Skipper's NR that happened at Golden West. However, I have no idea if his old HS considers that their school record.

My state and HS follow the Track and Field News guidelines that give kids until August 31st after their senior year.

But as far as school records, it is up to each coach.

In Oklahoma you have to break any records during the school year. While school is in session, in the state of Oklahoma. Any other time or state it will not count.

Just my .02 here, but it seems a school record should only count if you are representing your school. Example, if during the school year, maybe indoor season, you are jumping for a club at a USATF meet, and you jump a new school record I don't think that should count. OK that is my take on it!

I like counting school records in the summer because it rewards kids who put in the extra work and train in the off season. Out here it's really tough to get kids to keep doing stuff in the summer. As far as my alma mater goes, my school record is one of the only ones set in the summer, it's not like our record board is dominated by that.
