Don't have to put down a national champion. Maybe there was some weather making it hard. Competing this late in summer is already hard enough.

There was rain throughout warmups and the first half of the competition, had to stop in the middle of competition for 30-40 minutes because it was raining to hard.
weather was not good!

In a tough economy, I would imagine that less people are able to make the trip. Most qualifying meets are 2-3 weeks ahead of time, and plane tickets can be pricey.

43 in the final?

I probably took 4 hours to get past the first 3 bars.

It looks like 33 showed up. If they had a good pit crew, it should have moved fairly quickly after the first few bars.

I do think they started too low though. There should be standard opening heights announced well in advance so that vaulters know whether or not it is worth making the trip. It should be at least 13' for the young men!

Great job Tom Stacey! He's going to North Central College this coming year.

With nine officials at the pole vault it ran well and was done in a timely manner.
I just wish they knew the rules better they did not follow maximum hand grip rules as stated on the usatf website.
maybee they could have given more than 45 minutes to warm up with 33 kids in the wind and rain.
The second vaulters step was not quite righ as he strided came up short and hurt his ankle and could not compete!

Quote from usatf website

"Pole Vault

Contestants in the pole vault competition will be weighed. All poles will be inspected for the manufacturer's pole rating and the maximum top-hand hold position as determined by the manufacturer. The competitor's weight shall be at or below the manufacturers pole rating. (NO TOLERANCE)

Poles will be impounded at time of inspection and delivered to competition site at time of warm-up for the event."

ya it was very rainy! i vaulted in it and i have cleared 14 7 before and only went 13 3 there where alot of guys that went well under what they have done before and have performed. it sucked that it was pouring while we vaulted but that stuff happens. we shouldve got more time to warm up we had about 35 mins and got about 3 run throughs so we couldnt do any drills jus get our steps. overall it was a fun experience tho and good luck to next years athletes
