Juline is about 95% sure she will go to BYU. It was between here at Arizona or BYU and our coach here called her the other day and told her that she would probably be better off at BYU. The problem was that BYU was offering her a higher % scholarship then we were. BUT, our scholarship for her was still worth more then BYU just because Arizona cost more. Juline wanted more money here and we just couldnt give it to her. I guess it just all comes down to which place is the best place for you. But she's leaning towards BYU.

early signing

Hardly any of us vaulters signed early bc the colleges arent putting out a lot of money right now....they're telling us we have to break national records to get scholarships and its kind of ridiculous. I think we are all sitting back for now and seeing what the spring brings us. There are also some schools making changes in their coaching staffs..so we're waiting for that to, i guess. Or at least i am. LOL. But yeah in the meantime i say its all about the jumping. :)

Just a response to the no full ride or scholarship thing....

I am an assistant field events coach. I would love to give a ton of money to the vault but it would not fly with my head coach at all, why, because the way a head coach looks at it, you all only do one event. Now I am not saying it is right, it is just that college is not neccessarily about money but about the situation that is best for you. Also, the kids in college are improving by leaps and bounds make 11 and 12' not that big of a deal. In my conference you have to go almost 12' just to place.

Now, for those of you who have not signed, make sure you apply to the schools that you are interested in now. Why, because you may have academic money there that you can use. But that runs out in the next two months at 85% of the universities in the country. So don't slack on applying and pursuing where you want to go. You have to be proactive in order to find the best situation for you.

Coachenfield is right. I'm fortunate because i was nationally ranked in the heptathlon before i was in the pole vault...and therefore got offered a good amount. Still didnt sign early tho. So yeah..my advice to all the pv'ers is to move away from the vault every once and awhile and experience what track and field is really about. :star:

I would agree with that. Those of you looking for money... if a coach thinks you can score in anything besides pole vault, you become more valuable.

i beg to differ

It depends more on the need of the team than the athlete. I went 15'7" my senior year in high school and i got full tuition at a state school. The Univ. of Cincinnati doesnt usaully offer this scholarship to a freshman they usually cap it around $4000 (in state). They had already signed two vaulters under the cap and they already had a pack of Decath/PV guys. And the head coach said he was looking for the single event pole vaulters to score more in the larger meets (i.e drake , penn, cusa champs). So SINGLE event people dont be discouraged. But i will add this the larger schools (big ten, acc, sec) told me i should have other events esp. hurdles. But i am getting through with just pole vault and i doing well in my "small" large DI University setting.
