PH's McCardwell sets new school mark

From Staff Reports

PENDLETON —
Ellie McCardwell broke her own school record in the pole vault and lifted Pendleton Heights to a victory in girls track here Monday night.

The Arabians tallied 64 points to 44 for Yorktown and 15 for Shenandoah. The meet was shortened to 11 events by lightning.

McCardwell cleared 12 feet, 7 inches, an inch better than the mark she set earlier this year.

She is ranked first in that event in the state and in the top 10 nationally. Her teammate Abbie Haffner won the shot put and discus.

Pendleton Heights is 2-0 and will next be in competition Thursday and Friday in the Madison County Meet.

The pole vault for boys and girls will be Thursday at Highland.

The rest of the events will be held Friday at Madison-Grant.

Area roundup: McCardwell posts state's best vault

From Staff Reports

ANDERSON —
Pendleton Heights’ Ellie McCardwell won the Madison County girls pole vault title Thursday, clearing a height of 12 feet 8 inches.

That mark was significant on three levels. First, it bettered her own school record of 12-7 she set earlier this week. Secondly the height was the best in the state this year. Additionally it moves her into the top five in the nation.
