Whats the Tape rule?

I was recently at a meet in southern california and the coach running the pole vault told me I needed to remove the tape from my wrist. I tried to explain to him that I have been having wrist issues and he told me unless I have an open cut I can't tape my wrist because its considered jewelry.

Is this rule true?

Wow...that's weird.
I BELIEVE [not sure] that you're allowed.
I think they allow forearm guards, BUT I'm not 100% sure.
If they allow forearm guards, they should allow tape for that reason. But I'm not sure.

I thought it was odd to.
I've done it before and nobody seemed to have a problem.
I've also seen other vaulters do it.
So if the rule is no tape then doesn't that mean no wrist sweatband and or forearm protector?

I believe the rule only applies to tape on your hand.

Tomorrow at track practice, tell your head coach what happened and ask to see a copy of this year's NFHS rulebook so you can look up the rules yourself.

Is the rulebook online? I seriously doubt my head coach has a hard copy of it.

No. I am pretty sure they mail a copy to every head coach every year. It's really small.

This is direct from the 2009 NFHS Rule book. Page 61 - Rule 7 - Section 5 - Article 21 - Taping of any part of the hands or fingers shall not be permitted unless there is an open wound that must be protected by tape. Taping of the wrist is permissible. Hope this helps.

I THOUGHT you were allowed to!
I thought so cuz I'm pretty sure you're allowed forearm guards because some people smack their forearm on the pole when attempting to invert so they get a bruise, so they wear those.

That one needs to be settled once and for all... There's way too much ambiguity... Unless it's already been added (EXPLICITLY)?

Nope... I forget where the thread is, but I remember a whole bunch of officials were calling forearm guards jewelry.
