In hs I had a coach who showed up about once a week. So pretty much I had to coach our team my senior year. I usually trained with another club (ultimate high) whenever possible. The club helped so much. To have a good coach at your own school helps so much, not like I ould know but, to be able to get used to your own runways, and facilities I believe is a great advantage.

I have a coach at my high school and quite a few schools in my league have pole vault coaches as well.

i have an amazing high school coach. his name, as you may have seen in other posts, is Cranston Hysong (yes the name hysong is the correct one....it's nicks father).....my freshman year, he was head coach and didnt really start coming over to coach me all that much until i jumped 12 '6" (he was always way busy with coaching everything else)....sophmore year he was even more focused on teh vault, and was over there as much as time permitted....by my junior year (last season) he was a full time vault coach, and will continue to be throughout this year......anyway, hes awesome, and i can't imagine vaulting as high as i have without his help

I attribute most of my sucess and recently uncovered talent to Jim Crumpler my high school pole vault coach. Its a real long story how much we all learned together. But he coached me from 0 -15'7" in four years. He also produced his first state champion this year at 15'9", and he has a senior and junior who have gone 14 and 13'6", respectively, in previous seasons. He also conviced our Athletic department to buy 2 poles per athlete per season and they have the best outdoor pit in all of ohio (UCS 1900 pit the rounded ones). So I think it is safe to say that we had a slight advantage over our competition. ;)

On the subject of high school coaches---You've got to look at Rusty Shealy
in S.C. YES, He's Chase's dad, but has some pretty good vaulters in the Carolina Extreme camp! Check out JR. Olympics this past year. S.C. was very well represented. Chase Shealy-Gold in Young men--
Mitch Greely-Gold in Intermediate----Sara Young-Silver in Young Women--
etc. etc.
