i think its an event for turning gifted kids who do stupid daredevil things into serious athletes. 4 years ago i was snowboarding off of cliffs doing backflip 360s and frontside boardslides on rails. Then i broke my collar bone in 3 places. After i healed up (and it sufficiently ruined my diving season) i tried pole vaulting the next year. I still do my fun, stupid, daredevil things, im just a lot more cautious because ive found something that can take me farther and is a lot more fun, to me, than snowboarding, diving, cliff jumping, wakeboarding, etc. I hope Iowa brings it back. With the right coaching, pole vaulting is an extremely fun and safe event.
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph
