Desert Vista High School’s Shaylah Simpson cleared 11 feet, 6 inches at the Chandler Rotary Invitational March 24 to not only win the event, but set a state record for a freshman in the pole vault. (U. Frank Williams Jr./AFN)
Shaylah Simpson is no longer a prospect for Desert Vista High School’s track and field team.
Just weeks into her freshman season with the Thunder, Simpson is a star, plain and simple.
She already proved her worth at the Chandler Rotary meet on March 24 by scoring 13 of Desert Vista’s 25-team points. The Thunder finished in seventh place out of more than 60 schools.
