Simplot Games injury

Unread postby Leggless » Mon Feb 19, 2007 11:34 pm

I was at the Simplot Games this weekend and right after I finished my qualifying height some kid had a bad vault and landed back into the slide box. I'm wondering if anyone knows what happened to him? Did he break something? All i know is that he was carried out on a stretcher, i was just wondering if anyone knew what happened to him.

I dont think you are talking about me, but i had 2 bad vaults in warm ups and ended up with my back in the slide box, but wasnt in a stretcher...

Then i saw one vaulter get rejected and land right on his butt to the right of the runway on the ground, OUCH!! If its not one of these things, im not sure. But i hope either way that hes ok!

I'm pretty sure i saw the jumps you're refering to. You don't remember the kid who let go of his pole and then landed in the slide box from 13 feet up? It stoped the qualifying round for about 30 minutes because they brought over about 8 trainers and they disassembled part of the pit to bring the stretcher in.

I think he is talking about something that happened during the qualifying round on Friday.

I was not there, but I heard about it (just that a kid got hurt) but I did not hear how he was doing.

The metal box that you plant your pole into when you vault, is what I call the Slide Box.

Ah, ok. Most people just call that the box (since you're in trouble if it moves).

There's a usually wooden, box-like construction that the majority refers to as a slide box--the reason being because you can run up, take off, practice your plant, and it will slide.

sliding box-->slide box :)

Good point, I guess it just depends on what you learned from your coach. Our coach is almost 70 years old, no joke. He's always telling us about how he vaulted on bamboo poles and landed in wood chips(crazy old guy). Anyways so no one knows what happend to that kid?
