At my school the PV runway is north/south and the pits were at the north end all last year. I only remember two or three days we couldn't vault because of a head wind. This year they switched the mats to the south end and we've only vaulted 3 days in almost 3 weeks. I do think that the wind has a te...

So whats the difference between straight poling and a pop-up and turn?

I'm pretty sure that I just did a pop-up/turn my first year of vaulting, and my PR was 8'.

Mine is 8', but I'm closer to 10' after practicing over the summer, but haven't been in any official meets.
I also threw discus, high jumped, long jumped, and ran the 200 once. I was more of a field event girl than a running girl.

I know that you're not supposed to vault on poles under your weight, but I had the same problem that you do. I weigh about 160, give or take 5 depending on the day (I'm not fat, just tall and kinda muscular ;) ) Any way, this summer when I was learning how to bend, my coach put me on a 13' 115 holdi...

My pv coach calls me E - not sure why, I know that there was an older Erica before I got to HS, but she didn't vault, and she was nicknamed Easy E. Thankfully I'm just E. But my vball team calls be booger or boogs for short, because of my last name - nothing to do w/snot or anything gross.

I don't completely agree about not locking your arm at all. I do, but just for a while, then I relax it, and it works once you get the timing down.
But then again I've only been vaulting for 5 months, and bending for 2 1/2, so take it for what its worth.
