What pole what grip?

I have been training with a college track program and have talked to my coach about this some but wanted to get some more knowledge. We have quite a few poles but since I am a shorter vaulter there is a gap on the poles I normally jump on. Our pole sequence goes from a 14' 155 straight to a UCS 15' ...

Coaching

So i have began practicing with a new college coach and track team for about two weeks now. In high school everything i learned and believed about pole vault was that rowing is not correct and it is why you must tuck and shoot. So i realized that this coach is teaching vaulters and doing drills for ...

Making some big changes in my vault

I am working on making some big technical changes in my vault as I am going to start vaulting in college next semester. I am going to a local club for now to get some work in before I actually transfer. One thing I have a major problem of is rowing. I do not row immediately after take off but do so ...

Re: Hope to jump higher soon

Okay so i believe you are correct! I went to practice tonight at a local club where there are many different video angles set up. I spend a great amount of time analyzing my jumps using this nice set up. As far as my take off i have always been an under person. If i am hitting only a foot under im d...

Hope to jump higher soon

I am a senior in high school and have recently jumped 14' several times gripping at 13'4 on a 13'6 175lb pole from a 6 left approach, and gripping roughly the same on a 14' 170lb pole from 7 lefts. I have recently had a fairly large breakthrough with my technique but from my short approaches, 4 and ...

Re: Critique my 2nd to last practice before states

Another thing. You are blocking out some. You need to focus on pressing up with your left arm. It doesnt have tobe completely straight. But it does need to go up and not out forward. By pushing up and not forward you will allow your chest to drive forward at take off and not your hips. You are blowi...

Alright thanks. And by higher frequency u mean consistant strides so that they are all the same length therefore no stretching out at the end of the run?

Re: Mid mark

Alright. Ill have to find an actual track to use because ours is asphault. But that makes sense to just find your stride length without the box to make you stride out.

Re: recenetly started bending, hard times getting vertical

Agreed. Focus on the ground work of the vault. Improve running technique all the way to your take off. The top end of your vault will get better almost atomatically with the improvement on the ground. I went from jumping 10' to 13'6 this season and i did no work hardly on the top half of my vault.
