Re: Need constructive criticism on 14' jump, please.

Hello, I'm not sure if taking off under is a bad habit of mine, but I know letting my hips sink under is a huge problem. I have been working on this in practice the past week. I have a meet next Tuesday and I will try to get a video of that just in case that jump was not normal. Thanks again for you...

Re: Need constructive criticism on 14' jump, please.

Thank you for your response! I see what you're saying in terms of how I am taking off under, but do you really think that it will take the offseason to fix? I mean I'm not a coach and I probably think I know a lot more than I actually do, but it seems like that would be the quick fix part. I don't b...

Re: Need constructive criticism on 14' jump, please.

Thank you for the reply. I see what you're saying and it makes sense. Once I start jumping again next week I'm going to jump from a short run and I will try that. I just have one more question: I think the reason why I may not be finishing the top end is because I don't fully drop my shoulders and c...

Need constructive criticism on 14' jump, please.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfMk_KWXATs&context=C4f712e7ADvjVQa1PpcFNZqXlc0SNWPF5nGC0pyvwcLFuVVz3RuhY= I understand I am doing many things well, but I also understand that I need improvement on many aspects of my jump. For example, I know that my hips get sucked under the pole and I never rea...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

Although not directly related to your initial problem - you do need to improve your plant. Simple guidelines are - when you are flat on the right foot the right hand should be just above the head - knuckle of right thumb touching the top of the forehead - not on the shoulder. Then the right arm sho...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

The second practice jump looks good -definitely on the way. Stop thinking about what your hands/arms are doing and concentrate on CONNECTING - LOCKING TOGETHER the legs and trunk when you swing up. Thank you for your reply. I believe that I have been doing that lately and I think that's why my seco...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

hmmm it looked a little bit better but i would not recommend letting go of the pole without completely finishing the vault, you could pick up some bad habits like that Sorry that was me trying to finish the vault. I just haven't figured out how to turn and push off the pole while I'm still going up...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

I've tried some things out and my inversion is getting a lot better. I have a video from a practice yesterday.

What am I now doing right? What am I still doing wrong?
This thread has helped, please tell me if you think I'm going in the right direction.

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

I want you to be aware that I am not set on one way of pole vaulting. My coach tells me that I need to row my arm, I personally have no idea how to do that. I also understand that the way you want to tell me doesn't include rowing, and I am excited to hear it because I don't even really believe in r...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

I am prepared to offer a possible solution to your problem BUT not until and unless you make it clear that you are going to SERIOUSLY consider what I recommend. I was always willing to take your advice but neither you or AVC Coach gave me any advice in the first place- you just told me that you hat...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

Sounds like you guys have it all figured out then. Good luck. Yes indeed - if you can brush off the opinions of one of the best coaches in the US you really must have it all under control. Good luck - I suspect you will need it. Please understand that even though I may know what my coach defines as...

Re: Help on Getting Inverted

I don't think that every person has the same definition of "rowing". I'm not saying that yours is wrong, but I've definitely heard different descriptions of what it is. My coach says that rowing is all in your top hand and is used to help penetrate deeper into the pit, and has nothing to d...
