Re: Trail Leg bending early

Kirk is absolutely correct. I had the same exact problem...though, i wasn't just over bending the pole, but i was also having a consistent under step, which yanked my hips at take-off...thus, making it hard for me to have a good efficient swing up - to invert. My coach Jan had me start from the basi...

Re: 3 left session yesterday...

i think as far as overstriding at the last step goes... just move it up a shoe...you gotta think about it. You already have a great outstep... it looks like your overstridding to be on. An outstep for you seems to be good right now. I say just move it up a shoe and try not to stretch at take-off. Th...

Re: Summer Training

Thats sounds like a great little drill Kirk. Im gonna have to test that out for myself. I really don't have the full concept on how to do the drill, but i'll figure it out. Thanks for the drill idea! Btw Kirk, you sound like a dude that knows your s*** - do you know if theres any good website...

Re: Summer Training

helpful hint- The summer time, and fall time, should be dedicated to learning the technique of the vault more, learning body awarness and how to use your body appropriately, and building a lot more core strength/ overall body strength. You don't need to jump high in the off season. This part of the ...

Re: 3 left session yesterday...

man, to tell you the truth, your jumping dammm good. You do a few things good, and a few things bad. First of all, you got a great out step, you keep that left leg nice and long behind you, you relax the lead knee good after initial take-off (you dont over drive that knee past 90 which cause a yank ...

Re: 8step jumps.

-a little helpful hint- I had the same problem with over driving the lead knee after the initial take-off jump. Now, this is not a huge problem, and some think this is not a problem at all. Though, i feel it is. I'm still in the process of initially driving the knee at the point of take-off, but onc...

Re: What is wrong with me?!?!?!

You first need to be a student of the event! thats the main thing. You have a lot of time to improve, so don't stress about it. The vault will get a lot more stressful the better you get. Start off slow...you do not need to rush to be better then your friend now. The pole vault takes a lot of patien...

Re: Take off Angle or Jump Angle

i dont have much to say becuase this article i found says it all. I do believe there is more then one way toward the take-off theory, you just got to find the one that best suites you as a vaulter or as a coach. Though, this article gives you a new mathematical calculation, and kinetic theory to thi...

Re: Rope Vaulting - Yay or Nay?

I say yay! I take pride in being a technician, and having an open mind about the pole vault - relating to theories, physics calculations, and any other ideas that might float around.I feel that rope vaulting is an excellent way to teach a more unorthodox approach to the vault. It gives you the abili...
