Lexi, Clearing 8' for a 7th grader in her third week of vaulting is VERY good. I would bet your coach has measured your long jumpers approach. It's basically the same thing for pole vaulting. Go out on the track, put the toe of your left foot on the starting line, run 5 lefts or a total of 10 steps ...

I know Lane Lohr, Becca's old coach does exactly that. I think Lane uses numbers, as you would find with golf clubs, but the same concept. He is at Washington University in St. Louis if you want to consult him. Great guy.

Last year I anchored our standards to 2x6's and slid them under the pit. It worked great. This year a new surface and new standards means we can host meets and anchor the standards properly in concrete.

Sorry about that Kyle. I don't have any solid research behind this, only what I've done over the years. I usually start 3.5 weeks before the big meet we are pointing for i.e. State, Regionals, Nationals, etc. I've started with 3 overspeed bursts per session for the first 2 sessions and worked my way...

Kirk is correct on this. The soviets used this speed assisted or "overspeed" training all the way back in the early 1970's. They towed a guy named Valeri Borzov behing a motorbike. The idea was the bike was overcoming the effects of gravity/inertia, thus the nervous system was forced to fi...
