I keep my right hand closed, but not tightly during the run. Actually I barely notice how I run. Had to think about it for a while. My grip on the pole isn't the most important thing on my mind when I'm running. :P

I haven't really had problem with shin splints, but my sis has. She takes a tennis ball to practice everyday and when they start to really hurt, she rolls the tennis ball on her shins, on the sides of the bone. She says it helps a lot.

Snapped Pole

Wow. At our most recent meet, our best vaulter managed to snap his pole in half during his vault. Thats the first time we've ever had a pole break. I pole-vault. Its like they completely forget that pole-vaulting and other field events are a part of ...

You have to be 15 and half to get your permit (which expires in a year) and you have to hold it for 3 months before getting your license. You also have to have 30 hours in the classroom drivers ed and 50 hours ...

Runners need strong legs, Throwers need strong arms, but Vaulters need both. Its as close to flying as you get... except for skydiving... but this is safer... kinda... We may only be good for 30 meters, but its a heck of a ride. (My school's distance coach was making of vautlers saying we can only l...

I've got a few nicknames. Since my older sister is on the team also and we always get confused as to which Polk they are talking about, they got in the habit of calling me Little Polk. To mark our steps, we use chalk and write our initals where our step is. Well, since my initials are TP, I've gotte...
