Re: Pogo Stick making a Masters comeback!

Pogo - I feel your pain - I dinged my hamstring (Biceps Femoris short head – same as you) a few months ago. Had to miss indoor nationals. I just turned 45 this week. Was having a fun winter working out here in NJ with ipolevault – learning good stuff and setting myself up for a good summer – dinged ...

Well, it is getting close to 2 months since this thread started. How are you feeling now - has the soreness caught up to you yet? Have you tried out your wheels? Any short run vaults? I can build strength now as well as I ever did (I'm 42), but I do get very sore - so you are a bit of a freak as far...

Didn't Dave Volz break his ankle in college - and was told he would have to give up vaulting? But he made a comeback and went to the Olympics - clearing 19'2" in the trials? I think I remember something about him landing on his feet on the mats and destroyed his ankle. I may be wrong. I am not ...

I am 42 - vault 15' now (have 2 meets left this summer to go higher :)). I find that when I kick in my training I can get tendonitis very quickly. Once I get it, it is difficult to get rid of. So, work up slowly and consistently - don't start running 15 200's the first day. Ice your Achilles and ham...

Bruuuce, Tried the new plugs Saturday at Dartmouth. They work great! They feel very nice on takeoff. I vaulted on a pole I have not used in about 2 years - with the standards on 70. I believe they do help get some extra penetration. I have the jumps on video...3 jumps at the end. http://www.njstride...

I plan to be there. My sore spots are working themselves out a bit, so I am not feeling too bad. As long as I am still all together at the end of March I will be there. It will be my first Nationals in the 40-44 age group (am 41 now). I have not been back to Reggie Lewis in a few years. I have been ...

39 - so next year you can vault as a master instead of a submaster. Actually there are some really good vaulters who will be turning 40 (are really 38/39) over the next couple of years. Will be fun.

Happy birthday!

Fire pit - sounds like a good idea. Reminds me of when I first cleared 13'6"- it was at Bowden in spring 1984 - it was snowing. I have since moved way down south to NJ. Not nearly as cold as Maine or Wisconsin/Minnesota. I did some vaulting today - got some pictures mailed off to Bubba. It was in th...

Hopefully there will be some somewhat warmer days here in NJ in the next couple of weekends. I typically get a day or 2 to jump in December - if so I will be able to get some pictures of my setup. All the pictures I currently have show people vaulting, but you can't really see anything else other th...

For me, short run and high bar have made a big difference. Hang from a high bar with your takeoff leg down and drive knee up as if you just took off - swing your trail leg long and fast while rowing forward with your arms (do not bend your arms). Shoot your trail leg over the bar and pop your hips u...

I know the feeling. I broke my ankle April 17 pulling the cover off my pit. I fell over backward with my foot in the wrong position - I knew I was in trouble as I was falling but I couldn't move my foot. I have a metal plate now and some screws. I started running very slowly late last week...I am ho...

* Vaulters not from the Northeast who have "peeves" against people from the Northeast because they were kicked out. * Vaulters who talk to themselves before they jump. * Little skinny HS vaulters who jump higher than me. * Vaulters who tear muscles then talk about how high they could have jump if......
