Taking off under- Bad habit
This is my second year as a collegiate level vaulter and now that I am stronger and faster I am ready for bigger poles. I have developed a bad habit though of taking off very under ( ~ 9' 9" - 10 ' 4" ) for a fifteen foot pole. I think this is due to me normally using a fourteen foot pole ...

Re: improving runway speed for a fifteen ft pole
First off i have to say that if it werent for tye harvey telling me to push the pole, i would not be to where i am today. im not starting any arguments but if he can go 17 or 18 feet pushing the pole, thats a good enough goal for me right now. their may come a time later when i will learn to carry t...

Re: improving runway speed for a fifteen ft pole
it wasnt that i was forcing myself on bigger poles. i didnt mean it to sound that way. our pole supply went from 14' 154,158,162,168,173 and 176. i went through every fourteen we had and when i tried on a fifteen 170,165, and 160 i wasnt able to penetrate and came down on the front buns. but i would...

improving runway speed for a fifteen ft pole
its our off season right now so i figured i would take a the time to improve on some of my vault issues. First off i ended my season on a 14' 176 and going from my longest run length. It was my seven stride(fourteen steps total) from ninety feet with the pole. at the time i only weighed about 155 or...

collegiate level vaulting
what are the best states to continue vaulting when considering to continue pole vaulting past high school? hopefully california is a good one, but im just curious as to some of the colleges that take vaulting seriously and not just hire basic coaches that know very little about the sport

Re: Pushing the pole instead of carrying it
its actually amazing that you said that because tye harvey is the one that told my coach and i to try the pole push. unfortuantely he is the only one that i know of who pushes it and he didnt make it to the olympics again. i was wondering if their were any other elites that employ this technique as ...

Pushing the pole instead of carrying it
Hello, My coach and i have been using a technique for two years now. It started when I was a sophomore and had trouble with transitioning from a carrying grip to a takeoff position. We consulted with an elite vaulter/friend of my coaches and I and started out pushing the pole on the runway with one ...
