Re: IHSA rules

Hey gOOey, I tell my vaulters in the fall lift weights. Start lifting 40% of max weight, ten reps. Also, pull ups and ab work. Before the weather turns, make a wooden plant box (skyjumpers.com for plans) and get a pole from your school and work on your plant, takeoff on your driveway at home. If yo...

Re: IHSA rules

Thanks for your help! This is what the official from IHSA said, but I was unsure about the two athlete/boy/girl rule... good thing you clarified. You can not attend a coaching school during the school year. It becomes a coaching school and is no longer a private lesson (a private lesson is legal at ...

Re: IHSA rules

Thanks for your help so far. I've also heard this rule before with the college athletes.

I emailed an official that was listed on the IHSA website. Once I get his response, I'll post here.

Re: IHSA rules

I'm thinking that if we could vault once every week or once every two weeks, it'd help out a lot. Then, when we're not vaulting we're doing a lot of pole speed training, weight lifting (we're all scrawny), and high bar/rope drills. I know for the local vault club we can only have 2 kids from our HS,...

I used to wear Asics Kayanos when I ran distance for cross country and track, but now that I'm focusing on shorter runs and pole vaulting, I ordered myself a pair of Asics DS Trainers. If you like Asics you should definitely give these a try... I'm glad I did. Word of advice if you end up ordering o...

Sometimes I spend the whole day daydreaming about vaulting and a visualize every aspect of the vault... how it should look from a spectator's perspective and how it should look and feel when I'm running down the runway and vaulting.

The school record holder at my school (Mike Beese, 16'5") was also a hurdler. I can't remember if he did 300, 110, or both, but I think he was decent. I don't think he's that tall either... maybe my height (5'7") or a little more. I've toyed with picking up hurdles, triple jump, and long j...

Flat feet

I suspect this is the reason for my chronic shin splints, but that's not so much an issue because my shins actually feel like they've been getting better (thanks to the whirlpool treatment). Recently, though, my arches have begun to hurt... basically when I wear anything without support - which incl...
