Re: pole transitions (grip)
For what its worth your 13-6 17.2 is roughly the same stiffness as the 13-0 15.1 and the 14-0 19.8 when gripped at 12-8. So you have 3 poles that are virtually the same for a 12-8 grip. So does this agree with your experience on these 3 poles? By this I mean do you penetrate the same depth on all 3 ...

Re: pole transitions (grip)
Your 14'-19.8 is almost identical to the 13'-15.1 when gripped at 12'8. as previously said start with a 12-8 grip and move up grip gradually.

Re: Flex numbers and poles
In my 20 years coaching I've only seen discrepancies in flex no. when dealing with 12' and shorter poles. This is due to the use of dfferent span lengths in the flexing process.EB uses a span that is 2 feet shorter than the overall pole length which is consistent with the way manufactures flex longe...

Re: Lets Discuss Pits
Lots of Richey pits in my area- Never seen any problems with the stitching or the top pad fasteners. After about 10 years the top pad foam may become "dusty". Weather covers are really durable (much better than UCS). Base angled sections have velcro attachments to keep sections together th...

Re: 19 feet pro's/con's
A couple of observations- a 16'1" grip and a 5.80 clearance are about what DJ would predict from his data. But what is different from Tully's 5.80 and the numerous 6.00 jumps by others? When I look at the video the most obvious feature is the physique of Tully. He looks like a steel pole guy - ...

Re: getting on a new pole
The 13'-175 is equivalent to a 14'-155 gripped at the same height. Goin to a 14'-180 from a 155 is a huge jump in pole stiffness, hence your penetration problem. You need to find a 13'6 - 170 or 175.

Re: Pacer Poles (FX vs. older model)
On Gill poles 13 ' thru 15', I have noticed that the pre 1998 (Best Flex) poles are rated 5 lbs lower than newer models. So if you are mixing old and new Gill poles on Jan's chart you will find some problems. If you plot the flex number vs weight rating for 1998 and later Gill poles they have a line...

Re: Pacer Poles (FX vs. older model)
Check the flex number on the 15'-155 again-- I have 2 pacers that are 155's and the flexes are 21.9 and 21.3. I have a 165 that is a 19.3. A 16-17 flex is going to be a 170-175.

Re: Pacer Poles (FX vs. older model)
Gill changed to the red label with blue PACER when they rerated poles by the BestFlex system -this was late 1998. The FX came out in early 2003. In our series in 2003 we had 14', 14'6 and 15' poles from this era Pacer, Pacer FX,Pacer Carbon, Skypole, and Spirit. My 2 guys never said anything differe...
