Re: Discrepancy Between East and West

The weather during the women's competition in the East was cold and windy with a steady rain throughout.

I watched the pole vault competition Saturday - both Class A and AA. This thread seems to explain a couple things that I found unusual in the AA competition. There seemed to be about 9 guys still in the competition at 15+ feet -which I thought was pretty amazing. Also one vaulter was soaring so high...

Cody took the state title today (15'), and raised the bar to 16'2-1/2 for a new state record but could not quite make it happen. He also placed 3rd in triple jump (44'11"). Congratulations on a great season Cody.

Becca - I called the TV station when I saw your post and told them that their facts were wrong - the boy was not watching anyone pole vault when he was hit. The pit was covered and the vaulters were elsewhere. I hate to see the pole vault connected to this tragedy.

track athlete killed by lightning today

Please don't take any chances when it comes to lightning this Spring. A high school track athlete was struck by lightning and killed today at a track meet we attended at his school in Carbondale, IL. He was walking through a field near the pole vault pit (which we had covered and shut down due to th...

Cody Doerflein - 15'8"

Congratulations to Cody Doerflein, a high school junior from DuQuoin, IL who jumped 15'8" at the EIU Invite today. Cody jumped 14'6" last year and has been working hard all winter. He has no indoor facility to practice at in Southern Illinois so his mom has been taking him to Jonesboro, Ar...
