If your takeoff is sound, you need to keep coming around on the pole to avoid falling out at the top. Stay on the right hand (if you are right handed) and keep pressure on the pole by rowing through. Also you need to keep yourself close to the pole through the recoil. Get your right hip to your righ...

I'm not sure about CIF rules, but in Florida it counts as a meet if you compete and represent your team. You don't necessarily have to compete with your team, but if you wear your uniform and your school is listed by your name, it counts toward the maximum.

Pole Vault City girls represent at FL Relays

We had 6 girls vault at the FL Relays and had 3 pr's amongst them. Lori Bowen won at 12', Erica Hall was second at 12', (results were messed up online), both pr's. Michelle Teuton 10' (PR), Taylor Warden 10', Kelsey Bealert 10', and Brianna Mulkey 10'. It was a great showing for our club and I am ve...

Adam Sarafian vaults 5 meters at FL Relays

Adam Sarafian vaulted a new pr at the FL Relays of 5 meters (16'4.75"). He came down on 16'9" and barely missed the record. Here's the awesome part - 14 steps and a 14'2" handhold. That dude can fly! Way to go Adam.

That's not unusual for Big Rig. He has a PR from one left of over 13'. It's either 13'3" or 13'4", something like that. That is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. Go Derrick!

Congratulations to Colorado for throwing the javelin. Any pole vaulter that lives in Colorado should contact the coach that stated "unfortunately, this is the end of the pole vault", and tell him where to stick that javelin. I'm so sick and tired of coaches worring about the inconvenience of the pol...

brian wrote did you know that conversions are different in the vertical jumps than horizontal jumps as they are always rounded down to the last 1/4 inch or centimeter. and in horizontal jumps they are based on probablilities. for instance 5m is 16-4.75 in the vault and 16-5 in the lj the vertical ju...

He wrecked his ankle big time. They showed it on tv. He took off a little under and decided not to finish the jump, and then, for some reason he decided to land on his feet in the pit. BIG NO NO for all you beginning vaulters out there. When he did, he rolled his ankle and the tibia and fibula decid...
