PUSH PLANT TYE HARVEY STYLE

I would like to invite some discussion on Tye Harvey's push plant technique. I know Tye and have picked his brain on the rationale behind the push plant and have have watched him do it with success. There are three elements that I find particularily attractive. First is the additional runway speed. ...

The angle between the bottom arm and your torso at plant should be 160 degrees with the elbow flexed slightly ouward. At take off the bottom arm remains firm but slightly flexed. This will keep you off of the pole assuming that you didn't get ripped with an under plant. The pressure on the pole is a...

I have found that hurdle training offers two distinct benefits for vaulters who are having trouble with approach and under plant. Proper hurdle technique requires an upright posture with high hips much like the posture needed for proper pole runs and plants. It is also very effective at evening out ...

Oceanside........cool, I have family in Fallbrook. My guess is that you will be off that new 13-1 and on a stiffer pole sooner that you think.

Sounds like you need a tweener pole or two. Try to beg, borrow or buy a 13 that is 5lbs stiffer than the one you are using and a 13-6 that is weight rated the same as the 13 you are currently using. If you can fit a few more in there so you have a series of poles with a good flex range relationship ...

This can be a tough problem to solve. I had a 12 foot HS girl who did exactly the same thing. Often times this problem begins at the mid as the vaulter begins the active pole drop phase. The torque of the pole as it rotates down will cause the torso to move farther forward than it should be to maint...

Those drills that you were watching are called "stay downs." Essentially what they do is simulate the plant and beggining swing. They are usually done from a six step (three left) run-up and the vaulter stays upright during the whole drill. The upper arm should be pressed high and the lower arm is p...

Maybe I can answer this one for you. I know Jan and have coached at some of his camps. He coaches pretty much from the same mold as the Petrov/Bubka 6.4 model. He encourages jumping into the plant (free take off) with the bottom arm firm but not straight in the "blocking out" position. The torso mom...

At the plant the bottom arm should have the elbow mildly flexed and to the side so that it is even with the outside edge of the same side shoulder and the top arm pressed high. This will allow the pole to roll to the side clearing the way for a complete swing to vertical. This serves several purpose...

Don't ever bounce weights????? To do a correct bench max lift the weight off of the rack and lower it with the elbows directly below the wrists to a controlled stop. Raise it in an upward and slightly back manner to a point above your eyes. Always use a spotter when maxing.

good luck
