Like Altius says jumping is a key element in pole vaulting. Without it you are just reducing the power input you have into the whole PV equation. We all want more power in our vault right? It is incredibly neglected in the US as a whole and we need to rectify that as much as possible. Too prove the ...

When I vaulted in the midwest we had a piece of track the size of the box that we pulled in and out of the box every practice. It was a heavy bugger but it kept all the foreign objects out of the box. Just a thought.

I have always had the opposite experience with Pacer poles. I've always felt like they bent high and returned rather quickly. They helped me develop a high takeoff and a long powerful swing, it could be just me though. For me UCS Spirit poles always seemed like long slow bottom loaders. I know I'm p...

Watched all of your vaults and they all seem to be at least 6"-1' under. Also I do think you are planting late which will have a tendency to push your plant arm to the right seeing as how you are right handed. Pole runs will help with the timing and efficiency of the pole plant. As well as all of th...

Achtung PV thank you for posting the Botcharnikov gem! I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of that forever. I had a copy once in college but let someone else read it who never returned it. Thank you very much.

Bending a pole is not a sign of a succesful vault or vaulter. Ideally, if it was humanly possible, to jump over the top of a 20ft. sailpiece then that would be swell and we would have a new WR very quickly. However, human beings as of yet do not possess this capacity. Bending a pole is largely relat...

Never, never, ever, ever pull down with your top arm. This only decreases your pole ground angle and will completely hinder every aspect of your jump after that. One of the main goals in PV is to roll the pole into the pit. Pulling down with the top arm will only give yourself shorter levers with wh...

In my experience this comes from two things. One is pulling with the top arm. The other is being so far under that they can not control where their body is going at "takeoff". It sounds to me like they are just getting ripped off the ground. Adjust their steps so they have an actual take off. Which ...
