AU football #1

Forgot to mention how badass football is down here too. Football games in all the other conferences are like high school football games here. no one can compare.

Schools

SEC is the way to go if you want to be apart of a successful program. Granted the schools in the west usually put out prtty good pole vaulters, look at the top 5 0r 6 teams at NCAA's for the past 5 years you will see the SEC is consistently 5 of the places. Being apart of a good program will make yo...

a 15 foot jump will get you on at almost any school I think the hardest part would be staying. The way its done at my school anyone can walk on but walk on guy vaulters have to progress so much like 1st year if you don't go 15 or 15 6 your out. But considering opening heights at any decent meet will...

redshirts and meets

Hey I am not exactly sure of the ncaa rules but I think that there is a limit to the number of meets a redshirt can compete in during the season. I think you guys should check before you go to a lot of meets because it would be a shame to blow a year of eligibility because of a misunderstanding of t...

There is a meet at Samford in Birmingham the same week as penn relays I think it is like 3 weeks away. I think there is a meet at troy state this weekend or next. I dunno how far you wanna drive but from Athens, Birmingham is like 2.5 hours and troy will be like 4. Oh it was nice meeting you at the ...

I agree bench has nothin to do with vault, we do it so that we are training all our muscles instead of just lats and shoulders. Vaulters wouldn't look so good if we all ahd huge shoulders lats like a flying squirrel and chests like distance runners ;)

Final word on the square

The coaches box is only a big ten rule no other conferences have adopted it, I don't even think it will fly in the big ten considering no one really know the exact way to enforce it.

Bending a pole against the wall isn't very effective I think doing partner spot plant drills when you take off and a teammate lifts you a little and eases you down is a lot better crushing a pole on the wall is a drill often used but used usually by that one guy at camps that wants to show how much ...

I agree that coaching is the beginning to safe vaulting. When I was in high school my coach(me) knew nothing I learned from tape and the occasional camp. In order for vault to be a safer event we have to get rid of or teach the "wannabe" vault coach or else I agree that eventually vault will go away...

Definitely speed on the runway is important. People who are fast aren't always fast with a pole. Speed allows for a higher jump just because of physics. Strength helps to a point but I'd take more speed any day rather than strength.
