I agree with above - it will take time to relearn the correct habits, but very worth it in the end. BtB is a great book and has some great progressions. Most likely with being so far under, she is being ripped off the ground, and thus does not have to jump at takeoff - when her step is on, she proba...

Russ, Sounds like your athlete has a lot of potential! I realize this is a late response, but thought I would attempt to help. As she may be looking at D2 and D1 colleges, I would encourage her to sign up for the NCAA clearinghouse. This will make sure she is academically qualified to receive any so...

As she gets the feel of the correct position, and knows she can make it into the pit ok, you can gradually move her step back and grip up. The is a task progression method. She must perform this properly X number of times correctly. If she does, move up and back. If she goes back to reaching to be ...

As you are getting real close to the meet, I would suggest holding lower on that bigger pole. (14' 155) Holding lower should allow you to penetrate the pits more. It is going to make the pole stiffer (but I am sure you knew that). Your 13' 160, where are you holding the pole, how does it feel on top...

Thank you! This does help a little. After I posted this last night, thought I would provide a little more depth to my question. The reason I am asking this is that I work with both High School age athletes and College age athletes in my area. I tend to have a lot more success with college athletes t...

Strength vs. Technique
I am very curious as to what other coaches say about Strength vs. Technique in the pole vault. As we all know, the pole vault takes a lot of strength, proper technique, and a strong mental attitude. At which point does the technical training need to be lessen so that overall strength can occur so th...

Very well said above. You might also want to think about your top arm (in the picture it would be the right arm). As you begin the pull and turn phase, your right elbow may stay really close to the body, almost going into your gut. Try to keep it outside a little more. Think pull, then turn. It is a...

Thank you very much for all the advice you have given and the advice you still have yet to give. As a newer coach, you have given me insight to numerous advances that have helped my athletes and students. Regardless of what others may claim, have said, or will claim, you have been a tremendous posit...

Excellent, thank you very much for the additional information. I went to your picture page and watch the videos of your jumps. With an additional Hand grip, you will be able to bend the pole more easily. With a stiffer pole, it will be harder to bend, but will "give" you more on top - so you are cor...
