Re: Meets in late August close to Canada

Jeff Hayhoe just announced a pole vault competition on July 21st at York. Go to the Pole Vault Canada website (forum) for details. Also, if you still need a standard in August, I would recommend Sherbrooke for sure. It is a pretty good place to jump. Another option is to call the OTFA and get a sanc...

I don't know how much you can change your technique at this point, but here's a piece of advice I picked up from Brad Walker about getting on bigger poles: he said that when you move to a bigger pole, jump as if you're trying to blow through and get on the next one. It's an attitude that will help t...

You should definitely be able to jump well, given your physical abilities. With some good coaching, the technique will help you to go far. Ryan Hvidston is the coach in Vancouver, who is a 5.20m vaulter himself, and has a very good eye for technique. You'll be in good hands with those guys.

I PM'd POGO STICK, but in case he doesn't find that, I recommended the group in Vancouver. The contact there is Laurier Primeau. His email is lprimeau@stgeorges.bc.ca . Of course he's welcome to our group in Abbotsford, but it might be a little farther to drive. North Van isn't quite set up with a l...

Rick, this is exactly what I'm looking for... a set of tests that will highlight both strengths and weaknesses, in order to tailor-fit a training program to an athlete. I would very much like to see your tests and norms. The only tests for which I have vaulter-specific data are the ones from the tab...

Need Clarification of some Field Tests and Data

Hello coaches, In the book "From Beginner to Bubka" on p.124, Figure 20.1 has 8 tests that correlate to PV performance. It essentially implies that... For a 3.00m vaulter, the athlete should be able to (on average): 1. run a 30m flying start in 4.2s 2. run 100m in 13.6s 3. Standing LJ 1.65...
