Re: New to Pole Vaulting
try going to a pole vault club if you reallllly want to do it. They can be pricy. also go to the gym, start doing pull ups, ab workouts and sprints!

Re: AGE - concerns and advice
Look up Jen Suhr (the Olympic gold medalist), and see how old she was when she started. (to give you a hint she played basketball in college, never pole vaulted until after college)

Re: Short Pole Vaulters?
I've noticed people who are shorter have a better technique because they need one. I know a girl who is 4'11 and her PR is 10'6" (she is still in highschool). so obviously if someone who is short is athletic enough, they can be a good pole vaulter

Shin splints...stop training?
I have been getting shin splints on and off throughout the season. Every time they come back they are worse. Right now they are really really bad and at practice i have not been able to grip as high as usual because i am not running as fast, and i usually can't even go to my five left approach. I kn...

Re: When is it too young to start PV?
Thanks for the feedback! You all bring up a great point though because i am not sure if she will be able to handle 1 or 2 hours with a bunch of high school kids, she will have no one to talk to and the conversations are not always appropriate, so we most likely will wait until she is in 6th or 7th g...

When is it too young to start PV?
My little sister is 8 years old and she wants to try pole vault. I started at 14, i am now 16, but is 8 too young to start? My mom is not sure if she wants her to start yet, but i think 8 is a good age because by the time she is my age she will be so good.

How far below your PR should you come in at?
I have a PR of 9', and i know i can do 10, i no-touch it at practice all of the time. However, when i cleared it we had a 6 jump rule and it was my last jump. I came in at 7' that day. I have been told to come in at 8, but my first few jumps in a meet are not always my greatest however when there is...

About what height should i be clearing?
So from a three left approach, i grip 9'3" to 9'6" depending on the day. I can easily wrap 11ft with this grip, not every jump, From fives i grip anywhere from 9'9" to 10'3" and can easily wrap 12ft From seven lefts i grip about 10'3" to 10'6", and can wrap 11'6" a...
